Healing
By: Tawnyleaf

I feel the day break, starting with the rising sun.
It opens my eyes, filling me, my bed, the house with its warmth.
I wish with all my sore heart that it would melt away the hard stone
Set in my stomach, filling all my new thoughts with fresh, raw, pain.
I hear it in my mind again and again, the scream of inhuman fear and then the bone shattering crash.
And on my cheeks, I feel the stiff tracks of those tears.

O

Just remembering those tears,
Makes me want to curse the sun
For daring to show its face after the crash.
For having the audacity to spread its cheerful warmth
And I cry anew at the unrelenting pain
Of the cold, hold, unforgiving stone

O

The awful edges of that stone
Squeezes newer, sharper, tears
Out of my eyes, and with the new salty wetness, more pain.
All of this blissfully ignored by the sun.
Who keeps spreading its happy warmth,
As if trying to erase any traces of the crash.

O

But no matter what the light wants, I refuse to let it steal away the crash.
I refuse to let it move the stone.
No matter how much the warmth
Wants to take away the tears
I will not let it succeed. I feel the sun
Fade away, leaving me alone in my pain.

O

I have succeeded and failed. Everything is dark pain.
The memories of the crash
Force out the light of the sun.
The crushing weight of that oppressive stone
Make more ice cold tears
run down my already slick face, dousing any warmth.

O

But that gentle, persistent light will not give up its fight to give me its warmth.
Even the horrible pain
Is driven back and I manage to smile through my tears
The memory of the crash
Dissolves slowly, refusing to go without a fight, but the pain
Heals in the curing rays of the sun.

O

“Sun is too strong,” My first sweet dream whispers, “even for the memory of the crash.”
“Tears will erode away at the sharp edges of that oppressive stone.”
“Pain isn’t strong enough or cold enough to survive being melted by warmth.”
